A Few Musical FriendsI am fortunate to know many fellow independent musicians who are doing exciting and wonderful work. I thought it might be nice to introduce a few of them through their web sites - most have free MP3 downloads of their work and many are producing their own CDs outside the traditional studio system. I hope you explore them and enjoy them as I have. |
Anita Camarella and Davide Facchini This Milan-based duo combine a lovely voice full of character (Anita's) with a fantastic guitar style (Davide's) to create some truly great duets. Their CD of old Italian popular songs is a favorite in our home. Davide has also released a solo CD that showcases his superb technique--think what you'd hear if Chet Atkins had happened to sit down with Django one night for a little jam session (wait, did they??)...
Marcel Tiemensma A conservatory-trained Dutch guitarist who is creating energetic, original music that crosses over into Latin beats, flamenco and jazz. Marcel also offers personalized classical guitar lessons over the web, quite an interesting idea.
Steinar Gregertsen A Norwegian electric guitar player, especially strong on unusual slide guitar playing, who's composing some really original work. His new CD is just out. I'm a particular fan of his song "Northern Lights," since that's a subject I've written about too.
Bill Vencil Bill plays original steel-string fingerstyle music with a Celtic feel, very rich emotionally. I am personally in love with his Irish Lowden guitar sound, but that's a subject for another time.
Bryan Tysinger Bryan's fingerstyle music has huge emotional range, with influences as far-flung as Bjork and Chopin (when have those two ever been mentioned in the same sentence?). His technique is excellent.
Bryan Roberts Another very talented Bryan. Bryan Roberts plays a broad range of styles and is a blazing fingerstyle picker.
Stephen Wake A gifted young classical and Celtic-style guitarist based in Costa Rica. Stephen's interpretations of Scottish and other Celtic-origin traditional tunes are delicate and perceptive.
Dave Keir A very talented English guitarist and singer in a Celtic vein.
Joe Woodson Joe's a writer and terrific singer out of Chapel Hill, NC. His tunes are country-flavored and kind of loose-limbed in a way I find really appealing. And I don't say that just because he's my cousin, either!
Rachel Speed An up-and-coming photographer from Northern Ireland with a keen eye for gritty urban landscape and nature too. Best viewed with the accompaniment of a Lowden guitar!
Suzanne Plunkett A superb photographer of people - nearly every photo of me on this web site is by her.
